FIRST ANNUAL LONG ISLAND KOSHER BBQ CHAMPIONSHIP SPONSORED BY FAIRWAY MARKET ANNOUNCES JUDGING ROSTER
Judging Panel Includes Diverse List of Culinary Experts including Authors, Professional BBQ and Kosher Food Aficionados
April 18, 2012 – The Long Island Kosher BBQ Championship (www.likosherbbq.org), sponsored by Fairway Market (www.fairwaymarket.com) today announced the roster of culinary experts who are lending their support for hunger relief on Long Island by volunteering their time and expertise to judge the BBQ competition. The event’s judges were all recruited for their expertise in the preparation of BBQ and Kosher cuisine as well as their love and appreciation for fine food. The judging roster includes:

The Long Island Kosher BBQ Championship to be held at Temple Beth Torah in Westbury, New York on Sunday, June 10th, 2012 from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. will be raising awareness of and proceeds for locally-based hunger relief charities including Long Island Cares, The INN (Interfaith Nutrition Network), Hatzilu, Rock Can Roll, M’yad L’Yad as well as the charitable activities of Temple Beth Torah. Open to all without charge, this event is modeled after and sanctioned by the ASBEE World Kosher BBQ Championship in Memphis, Tennessee. The day’s events include opening ceremonies led by local elected officials and a BBQ cooking contest featuring 18 teams from as far away as Miami and Atlanta who will be competing in categories including Best Brisket, Best Ribs, Best Beans, Most Original Team Name and Best Booth Decoration. Families and guests can enjoy a variety of food as well as children’s activities including an inflatable Obstacle Bounce, Velcro Wall and Tattoo Art. The event will also feature live music, games and contests ranging from hot dog and pickle eating contests to a basketball skills competition.
“We created the LI Kosher BBQ event to bring families and all those who appreciate good BBQ together to help end hunger in our communities,” said Marvin Rembo, the event’s organizer. “We are truly appreciative to be joined by such a diverse and distinguished group of culinary experts who all have volunteered their time for the cause. We are looking forward to a day full of both serious BBQ competition and family fun.”
