Jericho High School – September 27

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

I had the honour of speaking with a group of seniors in the Participation in Government class, at Jericho High School on Thursday afternoon. I talked about the rock CAN roll organization, our mission and our work. If someone does not have food to eat, how can they be expected to do well in school, get a job or be a productive member of society? It is societies responsibility to take care of those less fortunate.
rock CAN roll evolved out of my love for rock ‘n roll and my concern for children, seniors, men and women who are living with hunger and in poverty. I hope my story helps them to become better citizens.
The students were great and I look forward to their coming out to volunteer with us at upcoming events throughout Long Island.
One terrific highlight of the event…they donated 35 lbs of non-perishable food!
Bravo to Mr. Shotter and Ms. Bouler!
On behalf of those who will benefit from your support of our efforts, I thank you all! You rock!
peace..

Craigslist Foundation + rock CAN roll + UPS = 1000 lbs of food!

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

On Saturday, September 15, 2007 The rock CAN roll Organization collaborated with The Craigslist Foundations at their 2nd Annual Non-Profit Boot Camp at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
Over 1000 people converged at BAM and each was asked to bring a non-perishable food donation for the rock CAN roll Organization!
With help from some amazing superstar ‘UPS Volunteers’ we collected and delivered over 1000 pounds of food to two local soup kitchens!
Sister Mary at CHIPS, described the food rCr delivered as “Top Notch!”

The Executive Director of Craislist Foundation, said in an email to us… “Thanks for all your hard work- seeing those boxes of food was truly one of my highlights for the day!”

The New York Tri-State Area Nonprofit Boot Camp is a unique community effort planned, produced and promoted in partnership with over 75 organizations. It’s focus was simple – to educate, empower and connect the next generation of nonprofit leaders and social entrepreneurs.

I also had the privilege of sitting on as the member of panel discussion “The Reality of Starting a Nonprofit [Nonprofit Basics]“.

To all those who volunteer with rock CAN roll, there are not words to fully express my most sincere thank to you! YOU rock!
