Girl Scout Junior Troop 2539 & Samantha rock @ MLK Celebration!

January 20th, 2010

Many thanks to the folks who participated and attended the MLK Interfaith Service at St. Hugh in Huntington Station. This was a most moving event, in so many ways! If you missed it, put it on your 2011 calendar. I promise you will leave, walking six inches off the ground. Many thanks to our extraordinary rCr volunteer Leslie (in rCr shirt) for organizing the sorting and counting. Look at what these amazing young ladies who make up Troop 2539 and Samantha CAN do…these girls rock! With the help of their biggest fans (their parents) we collected and stocked the food pantry with 1031 health and nutritious food donations! After they completed the rCr project of restocking the emergency food pantry, the girls joined in to sing ” We Shall Overcome” with all the children in the service.

rCr Founder Aimée with Samantha, holding a donated bottle of sparkling cider! Cheers to all for a job well done! With kids like this leading the way, I am sure the future is in good hands!

January 30, 2010 Elvis Tribute @ Hennessey's Bar & Grill in Huntington Station

January 30, 2010 Elvis Tribute @ Hennessey's Bar & Grill in Huntington Station

The 16th Annual Elvis Show will take place on January 30th, 2009 at Hennessey’s Bar & Grill in Huntington Station. The Elvis Show features over 30 Long Island musicians in a tribute to Elvis Presley. Admission is $10 along with a HEALTHY and NUTRITIOUS NON-PERISHABLE FOOD DONATION. All proceeds will to aid local emergency food agencies. Over the past 20 years the Elvis Show has raised over $40,000 to help stop hunger on Long Island.

Scheduled to appear are members of The Lone Sharks, The Hornets, The Mary Lamont Band, The Vendettas, The Bossa Nova Beatniks, The Hideaways, The Blaggards, Old School, The Purple Gang, The Bluebeats and featuring appearances by Annie Mark, Monica Passin, Jon Geffner, Gene Casey, “Memphis” Mike Lafata, Mary Lamont, Tom Ciorciari, Russ Seeger, Sean O’Neill, Tom Ryan, Rich Umbach, Mick Hargreaves, John McGraw, Keith Hille, Tom Gould, Mike Bifulco, Stephan Molfetta, Joe Rock and many more.

The shows founder and host, Steven Prisco said that the need to lend a helping hand is greater than ever this year. “In these troubled times with more people out of work than ever before the food pantries are finding themselves unable to keep up with the demand. The Elvis Show may be a drop in the bucket, but it does show how you can make a big difference in someone’s life with just a little effort.”

The Elvis Show will team up again this year with rockCANroll to help collect and distribute the food and proceeds from the show. rockCANroll, Inc., is a volunteer, non profit, hunger relief organization committed to restocking the dwindling shelves of local food pantries, soup kitchens, safe homes and shelters. The concept is simple, the rewards are immense! For a list of most needed foods, go to: www.rockCANroll.org
