Parish Social Ministry

What we do from our office is in the name of our parish and the wider community who are concerned with the principles of social justice that Fr. Andy has been writing about in his column. We can’t do it without you. The more conscious we are of the needs of our neighbors and our gospel mandate to be of service, or as our Jewish sisters and brothers would say, to do “mitzvahs”, the stronger and more vibrant is our community.

We don’t often think of our young people, especially teenagers, going outside of themselves to be concerned about others. You might be surprised to learn that there have been several individuals and groups of young people, who because of their awareness of the needs of others, have been involved in helping us. Over the next few weeks you’ll be reading about them.

This week. Jeremy, is pictured. He volunteers for “rockCANroll”, a non-profit hunger relief organization that collaborates with scheduled events (like his Bar Mitzvah) to collect needed items for agencies that assist people who lack food.

In addition, Jeremy is raising awareness about the Darfur crisis. He is a great example on how to act locally and globally. Thank you, Jeremy!
